Meet our gorgeous and sweet Spirit, who's just about ready to be adopted. We're looking for a very special person for her.
Spirit is a 1-2 year old, 50lbs husky female who was originally found as a stray in December of 2020. We believe, based on her behavior, (flinching/tensing up when being touched, compressing herself into the wall when being approached by a human) that she was sadly abused as a puppy. The good news is, notwithstanding her past, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. So, though she's been fearful of human beings, she's always been nothing short of kind to them.
Since her arrival at the rescue, we've been working closely with her so that she learns to trust again. And over these last few months, she's made great strides and has shown us that she certainly can. She's gotten to the point at which she can feel relaxed (and even fall asleep!) when being brushed, she'll accept treats from the hands of our volunteers, and she can play well with other dogs (her buddy Denalu is a 14lbs Alaskan Klee Kai and they love to chase each other).
As for that special someone we're looking for, here's a brief character sketch: patient, calm, attentive, gentle, loving, affectionate, and has a lot of free time to be all of these things for Spirit on a regular basis. Though she thus far has not shown many attributes that are typical for huskies, some husky experience is likely ideal. She may, after all, become more husky-like (adventuresome, exploratory, confident, bold, etc.) once she feels at home around her new family.
She'll likely need a good-sized yard with a 6 foot tall fence. If you'd like to learn more about this sweet girl, please feel free to reach out to
